Hornbills to face Tigers when SGNRL Championship returns this Saturday

The SGNRL Championship returns this Saturday as the in-form Eastern Hornbills take on debutants Wanderers Tigers at Tanglin Rugby Club’s Kampong Java Field in what is promising to be an exciting match up.

The Hornbills hit the ground running in Round 1, putting out a convincing statement to the rest of the competition with a high-scoring 72–48 victory over the Central Vipers. Five-eighth Nicholas Rimmer and centre Takahito Saigo, who both racked up hat-tricks against the Vipers, have been named for Saturday’s game, as the Hornbills look to continue their undefeated start.

Saturday marks a historic milestone for the Wanderers Sporting Club. Having established a proud 30-year legacy running successful Rugby Union and Netball clubs in Singapore, the Tigers represent the club’s first-ever Rugby League side. Entering the competition fresh for their inaugural match, the Tigers will be eager to write a new chapter in their storied history.

Guiding the Tigers into this new era is newly appointed Head Coach Justin Lobsey. Lobsey brings extensive experience in rugby league development and pathways in Australia, along with a passion for developing players, building strong club cultures, and growing the game. His leadership and credentials make him the ideal person to lead the Tigers as they help expand the local rugby league community. His immediate task will be instilling the defensive discipline needed to quiet the Hornbills’ explosive backline.

The match kicks off at 2:00pm SCT at Kampong Java Field this Saturday afternoon. Players, families and supporters are invited to pack an esky, grab a spot on the sidelines and cheer on both teams.
