Wanderers claim minor premiership

The Wanderers Tigers have claimed the inaugural SGNRL Minor Premiership following a hard-fought 24 – 14 victory over the Central Vipers. The decisive win secures the Tigers’ place in the SGNRL Grand Final, setting up a blockbuster championship decider against the Eastern Hornbills the following week.

The Vipers caught the Tigers on the back foot early in the first period, surging out to a 14 – 0 lead behind a double from Pierre Olivier Mounal, who also added a conversion. However, the Tigers demonstrated great resilience to work their way back into the contest. Tries from Kieran Price and Austin Tran, alongside conversions from Thomas Chamberlain and Lucius Yau, reduced the deficit to 14 – 12.

The match saw temporary disruptions midway through when both Lucius Yau and Elliot Morgan were sent to the sin bin in quick succession.

Maintaining their composure in the second half, the Tigers completed the comeback to take full control of the match. Harvey Brewin crashed over to give the Tigers their first lead of the afternoon, before Izzy Azmi sealed the victory with a late try. Additional conversions from Chamberlain and Yau closed out a 24 – 14 scoreline, sealing top spot on the ladder and confirming a grand final showdown with the Hornbills.
