Singapore Memerang head coach Dane Campbell has declared a host of players will make their debut for the national team this coming Saturday in the historic international against Vanuatu in Port Vila.
After a 3-day training camp in Brisbane, Campbell stated “As a coaching and management group, we have been really pleased with how the new players have adapted to our training environment. It has been a steep learning curve for them all, however their application has been terrific and the more experienced players in our group have done a wonderful job of assisting during the training thus far”.
Singapore based players Izdihar Azmi, Lucas Dulat, Oisin McCann, Leon Loh and Jordan Spencer will be joined by Australian based Judah Jury as being debutants in the game this Saturday against Vanuatu.
Memerang captain Wayne Baxter praised the younger players “the new guys into the group have been terrific this week. They have all come in an asked questions and are eager to learn. I have a lot of confidence that they will all do well in our game against Vanuatu and that they will represent themselves, their families and the nation with pride”.
Anglo Chinese School (Independent) student Loh described his experience so far “The training camp has been intense, and I have learnt a lot quickly. Getting to know the other players and to see firsthand what an elite training environment looks like has me excited to wear the red and white of my country”.
The SGNRL would like to thank the Norths Devils rugby league club in Brisbane for allowing the Memerang to train at the iconic Bishop Park (now Premier Park) venue.
The Singapore Memerang will face the Vanuatu men’s national team on Saturday, June 6 at Korman Stadium in Port Vila. Kick off for the match is 3:00pm local time (12:00pm SGT). The match will be live streamed by VBTC.
