The Singapore National Rugby League (SGNRL) is proud to announce that Wayne Baxter will again captain the Singapore Memerang for the upcoming tour to Port Vila, Vanuatu.
Baxter previously captained the side during their two international fixtures in 2025 and under his leadership the squad secured the Asian Cup following convincing victories over Japan and the Philippines.
Currently playing at centre for the Penrith Brothers in the Sydney Shield competition, Wayne will bring much welcomed experience to the Memerang backline. This experience is underpinned by a remarkable career spanning over 17 years in Rugby League, a tenure that provides him with a deep tactical understanding of the game.
His leadership is backed by extensive on-field success, most notably playing a pivotal role in the Penrith Brothers’ 2024 Sydney Shield premiership victory. This championship pedigree is complemented by his dominant performances for the Memerang, where he earned two caps at centre and crossed for two tries during the team’s successful Asian Championship campaign last year.
“It’s a massive honor to be asked to lead the Memerang again, especially heading into a tour as significant as this one,” Baxter said.
“Winning the Asian Cup last year was a special moment for Singapore Rugby League, but we aren’t resting on that. The boys are hungry to test themselves in a rugby-league-loving nation like Vanuatu and keep building our culture and standard.”
The presence of Baxter and several other experienced players in the squad will play a key role in the continued development of the local Singaporean talent in the squad, especially younger players like Brendan Liu, Fynn Postlethwaite, Oisn McCann, Lucas Dulat, Jordan Spencer and Leon Loh, as they learn the nuances of international Rugby League.
The Memerang tour of Vanuatu will see the Singapore Men’s national team face the Vanuatu national team at Korman Stadium on Saturday, June 6.
