The Singapore Sunbirds are accelerating their preparations for a landmark moment in international sport: the first-ever tour by a Singaporean Women’s Rugby League team. This June, the Sunbirds will travel to Port Vila to face Vanuatu, marking an official entry onto the international stage and a historic step forward for the growth of the women’s game in Southeast Asia.

Operating across two distinct markets presents a unique set of dynamics for the Sunbirds. While the primary challenge lies in coordinating tactical systems and building on-field chemistry while geographically separated, this model also provides a significant competitive advantage. By maintaining a presence in both Singapore and Australia, the Sunbirds are able to tap into the high-performance environments and deep rugby league heritage in areas like Sydney, while simultaneously fostering a new generation of homegrown athletes in Singapore.

To ensure a unified playing style, coaching staff in both markets are working in close alignment. These regular, intensive sessions are focused on high-performance standards, tactical discipline, and the physical conditioning required for the international arena. Under this collaborative leadership, the Sunbirds are evolving into a cohesive unit ready for the physical challenge of the Vanuatu national side.

The SGNRL are still inviting interested and eligible athletes to join this historic journey. Whether you are a local player in Singapore or an expatriate or heritage player based in Australia, the coaching staff encourages you to attend upcoming sessions to trial for the touring squad. This is a rare opportunity to represent Singapore in its inaugural women’s international fixture and be part of a pioneering legacy.

Following the conclusion of the tour to Port Vila, the focus will shift back toward local growth. The Sunbirds intend to leverage the momentum from their international debut to engage in further domestic activity, providing a pathway for continued development within the Singaporean sporting community.

Partnership Opportunities

As the program scales toward the 2026 season, the Singapore Sunbirds are actively seeking corporate partners to support this ambitious international itinerary. Aligning with the Sunbirds offers a unique opportunity to support the growth of the sport and gain visibility within the burgeoning Southeast Asian sporting landscape.
