The Singapore National Rugby League (SGNRL) is pleased to announce that the Men’s National team, the Memerang, will travel to Vanuatu this June for an international fixture against the Vanuatu Men’s National team. The match is scheduled to be held in Port Vila, marking a significant milestone in the continued development of the Singaporean side.
The Memerang head into this fixture following a highly successful international debut last November. Competing in the Asian Championship in the Philippines, the Singaporean side came away with the Asian Cup following wins over Japan and the Philippines.
Singapore Men’s head coach, Dane Campbell, expressed his excitement for the opportunity for the Memerang to face an opponent from the south-pacific.
“It is great to be able to lock in a mid-year fixture which allows us to continue the momentum we created from 2025. The players are excited about testing themselves against Vanuatu which will be the first time we play against Pacific Island opponents.”
“The Vanuatu Rugby League have a history of hosting quality international games with great local support so that will add to the excitement of the occasion.”
The Memerang head to Port Vila aiming to maintain their winning momentum against an experienced opponent. Vanuatu, a mainstay in the sport since 2011, has a history of hosting diverse international talent but has not held a home fixture since 2016. The June match concludes a ten-year wait for international Rugby League at Port Vila.
The tour is part of the SGNRL’s commitment to provide their elite squads with consistent high-level competition and to foster relationships within the global rugby league community. The experience gained in the Pacific will be instrumental as the squad looks to build upon the foundations laid during their Asian Cup success.
The match carries substantial weight for the SGNRL’s long-term development. As the national team seeks to earn its first international ranking, this tour serves as a vital component of Singapore’s ongoing application for membership with the International Rugby League (IRL).
The SGNRL will announce further international fixtures for the latter half of the year in the coming months.
