The Singapore Rugby League (SRL) has announced a major new initiative, officially launching a dedicated Women’s Rugby League program and calling for expressions of interest (EOI) from aspiring female players.
This landmark move follows the recent success of the Singapore Men’s National Team, the Singapore Memerang, in their recent Asian Championship campaign in the Philippines, and marks a significant step for the sport’s overall growth in Singapore. The new program sets the stage for a women’s domestic competition and the country’s first-ever Women’s National Team international fixture in 2026.
Domestic and International Ambitions
The new Women’s program is designed to create a structured pathway from grassroots to the representative level. The SRL intends to run a Women’s domestic competition that will run parallel to the new Men’s Singapore NRL (SGNRL) competition which is scheduled for July – August next year.
The ultimate goal of this domestic structure is to identify and develop players for the inaugural Singapore Women’s National Team, with the team aiming to play its first international match in 2026.
Call for Expressions of Interest
The SRL is actively seeking players who are keen to be part of this historic movement, both in Singapore and abroad.
All Singapore-eligible players, including heritage players (players with parents or grandparents from Singapore) are encouraged to register their interest.
Interested players can register their interest at sgnrl.sg or by emailing info@sgnrl.sg with their details and sporting background.
