The Singapore Men’s National Rugby League Team is set to make history this November by competing in the inaugural Asian Championship in Manila, Philippines. The team will join the Hong Kong Thunder, Japanese Samuaris, and the host nation’s Philippines Tamaraws in the new regional tournament, which is officially endorsed by the International Rugby League (IRL).
The tournament represents a landmark moment for the sport, as it will be the first-ever sanctioned international Rugby League game for the Republic of Singapore.
The inaugural Asian Championship will be hosted at the International School Manila (ISM) grounds, kicking off on November 27th.
The competition is structured over two rounds. The first-round winners will advance to play for the prestigious inaugural Asian Championship title, while the runners-up will compete in a third-place play-off round.
The Asian Championship is specifically designed to promote the growth of emerging nations. The tournament will feature a unique eligibility rule: players contracted to the NRL and Super League will not be eligible to participate.
Further details regarding the inaugural Singapore Men’s National Team roster, coaching staff, and final schedule will be announced in the lead-up to the tournament.
