The Singapore Rugby League (SGNRL) is proud to announce that the Singapore Sunbirds will join the Memerang for their upcoming tour of Vanuatu this June. This landmark announcement marks a significant milestone in the development of the women’s game within the region as the Sunbirds prepare for their inaugural appearance on the international stage.

The Sunbirds are scheduled to compete in a nine-a-side international match against the Vanuatu women’s national team. The match will be played over three 15 minute thirds and will serve as the official curtain raiser to the Men’s international match in Port Vila.

Since debuting in 2023, the Vanuatu women’s team has shown consistent growth through their participation in the Solomon Islands Pacific Games and the last two Fijian Cup Nines. This experienced side is expected to offer formidable opposition for the inaugural Sunbirds squad.

The inclusion of the Sunbirds in the Vanuatu tour is a fundamental component of the SGNRL’s broader Women’s strategy. The governing body remains steadfast in its commitment to establishing the Singapore Women’s national team as a premier national team within Asia with the tour serving as a strategic platform to build elite-level experience and visibility before the Sunbirds transition to their first full international match later this year.

Through this initiative, the SGNRL aims to foster stronger sporting ties within the Pacific and Asian rugby league communities while providing a clear pathway for female athletes to represent Singapore at the highest level. The organization views this tour not merely as a series of matches, but as the foundational step in a long-term vision for competitive excellence and sustainable growth in women’s rugby league.
