The Singapore Rugby League steering committee is proud to announce the official nickname for the Men’s National Team: The Memerang. This spirited choice celebrates one of Singapore’s most remarkable success stories—the flourishing return and re-wilding of the otter families to the nation’s urban waterways.

Just as the otters have reclaimed their place in the city’s ecosystem, the Memerang are ready to establish their spot in the Rugby League community. The team nickname embodies the animal’s key traits: their nimble agility, their fierce teamwork within the family unit, and the resilience shown in their widely celebrated comeback.

The Memerang will make their highly anticipated international debut at the Asian Championships this November in Manila, Philippines. This historic tournament will see Singapore test its mettle against the Hong Kong China Thunder, Japan Samurais and Philippines Tamaraws.

The event will be hosted at the International School Manila (ISM) grounds, kicking off on November 27th and will be the first time Singapore has played in a sanctioned international Rugby League game.

The Memerang are looking for sponsors for the Asian Championship. To find out more email info@sgnrl.sg
